Prayer in Islam and Children: An Introduction to the Love of Allah from an Early Age
In Islam, prayer is a fundamental pillar of faith. It is an act of worship that allows the believer to connect with God and purify himself internally. Teaching prayer to children from a young age is therefore essential and obligatory to help them develop their faith and spirituality.
When to start teaching a child to pray?
There is no specific age to start teaching a child prayer. Some parents start before the age of 7, while others wait until the child is 7 years old. The important thing is to do it in a fun and progressive way, adapting the learning to their age and level of understanding.
How to teach a child to pray?
Here are some tips for teaching a child to pray:
- Start with ablution: Explain to the child the importance of cleanliness before prayer and show him the steps of ablution in a simple and fun way.
- Learn the positions: Show the child the different prayer positions by miming them and using simple words.
- Learn Surahs: Start with short and simple Surahs, such as Surah Al-Fatiha, and gradually increase the difficulty.
- Create a ritual: Establish a specific time during the day for prayer, such as in the evening before bed. This will help the child get used to the ritual and see it as an important time.
- Use educational materials: There are many books, games, the prayer guide that I offer on Instagram from @Mylittledeen_ and videos for children that explain prayer in a fun and interactive way.
The importance of patience and encouragement
It is important to be patient and encouraging when teaching your child to pray. Be sure to remind him of the importance of prayer and praise him when he completes his prayers.
